Italy
Italy has definitely made my top 3 favourite places travelled, as I’m sure most would agree! Despite the cities seeming near to one another, I found the more of them I got to explore the more I realized how fresh and new each one felt, this being just one of the many reasons I fell in love with Italy. From the culture and beauty of the Country itself to the daily reminiscing of history that Italy holds I think there is something for everyone to be found here!

Rome
One of the best things to do in Rome is walk the ancient cobblestone roads and be in aweh of the archetecture and nature engulfing you. Within Rome there is so much to explore, learn, and admire — definitely with the help of a little (or a lot) of cash! Rome can seem overwhelming so here are some of my highlights..
1. The Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill — worth every penny to take a guided tour! You’ll learn so much more than you thought you would.
fun fact: the colosseum is one of seven wonders of the world!
2. The Vatican City incl. Sistine Chapel & St. Peters Basilica — One of my favourite parts of Rome! Incredible artwork and history behind it, highly recommend the guided tour!
tip: don’t forget the dress code! Both men and women both need to cover their knees and upper arms
3. Trevi Fountain — if you can squeeze through the crowd don’t forget to throw a coin over your shoulder for goodluck!
4. Trastevere — if you want to have an authentic Italian evening, head down to Trastevere for some great nightlife and delicious food! Don’t forget the wine!
tip: download the BIRD scooter app before going to Rome! They’re on every block and will save you thousands of steps!
Southern Italy — Capri
Capri was a gorgeous day trip from Sorrento if you’re looking for a some sand between your toes and breathtaking views! If you’re like me and want to do more than relax on vacation, climb the stairs to the left of the Marina until you reach the other side of the island at the Giardini di Augusto. This is where you can sit and unwind while taking in some of the bluest water I guarantee you’ll ever see on vacation — don’t forget to grab some gelato on the way! If shopping is your forte, alongside the stunning views you’ll also find a small strip of every high end store you could think of.
When exploring Capri I couldn’t help but take note that this seemed like honeymoon paradise! A perfect day trip for a solo traveller but I wouldn’t recommend staying the night if mingling is what you had in your agenda.
Getting to Capri — from Sorrento the 20 minute ferry will take you right to the main harbour in Capri. You can buy a ticket on site and double check when the last ferry will depart for the day. The ferry comes super regularly — roughly every 20 minutes!

Southern Italy — Amalfi, Ravello, & Positano
These quirky little towns on the Amalfi Coast are staples of Italy and can’t be overlooked! The beautiful beaches and vibrant colours will leave you wondering why your house back home is only black and white.
Your day will start in Amalfi with a quick bus ride up the mountain to the hidden gem that is Ravello. Stepping away from the chaotic streets of Amalfi you’ll get to slow down and enjoy the beautiful gardens and breath taking views this sweet little town gives you. To my surprise this was my favourite part of the coast that I got to experience and I’m so glad I didn’t pass it by!
Heading back down to Amalfi you’ll be able to explore the tight streets and beach until heading to the next stop Positano.
if you can… head to Ravello for their outdoor Classical Music Festival to melt away into the landscape
Despite the name, Positano is actually the most popular town on the Amalfi Coast and when you get there it’s no surprise why! The magical town of Positano has lush gardens, long beaches, and endless side streets full of local shops — something for every mood you could be in!
tip: do not pass by Positano Paradise for mouth watering pizza — one of my favourites in Italy!
Southern Italy — Mount Vesuvius & Pompeii
Getting to experience this small town from its ruins and learn about what it once was is indescribable and something you can’t pass by! If you start your day early enough you’ll also be able to walk the edge of Mount Vesuvius and get a spectacular view of the water and town of Pompeii before heading back down into them.
tip: if you don’t want to wait for a tour time, your Pompeii entry ticket will have an app you can download for self guided tours!
There’s many ways to get to Pompeii and Vesuvius. If you prefer to buy a tour package there is plenty online! If you’re like me and don’t mind the train you can ride it from any nearby city and purchase a bus ticket up to the volcano from the train station. Make sure you check the timetables for when the park is actually open for the time of year you’ll be there!
